Mask It

I tried a couple of projects today.

None seemed to want to work.

So I started on a leather armor mask pattern. It's supposed to be similar to the one in Lord of The Rings. Of course, this doesn't have the details and other pieces that I want it to have. If I get the basic shape the way I want, the details will follow. 

Post Christmas Ponies

On my mom's way back home from the Poconos, she stopped at Tractor supply. She told me that many of the Breyer horses were on sale. She came home with the three models I asked about.

They are all mint with no obvious flaws. I'm a sucker for muzzle markings, so these guys hit that.
Travis is a 2014 Tractor Supply release.

Maverick is  also a 2014 Tractor Supply release.

 This is the Indian Pony. I really like the feathers and shading.

So while I did not get models for per-say Christmas, I bought some models during the Christmas season!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holidays! I very much so enjoyed Christmas.
Bullet looked adorable in his Christmas costume,

while Rue tried to show that she would have been perfect in Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever.

I asked my sister a while ago about what she wanted for Christmas. She jokingly said she wanted a boyfriend. I was happy to oblige and make her dreams come true. *laughs*
I don't think she thought I would take her seriously, so when she opened up her stocking, one of the things she found was Grow A Boyfriend.

Pushing it off

This year I really pushed off Christmas shopping.
Today's shopping reinforced why I kept pushing it off.

Horses and active cubs

While I enjoyed the Przewalski's horse immensely,  the period of time that we spent watching them consisted of the pair filling themselves up with hay.

Still, there were many interesting shades and colors on them.

Many of the animals did not come outside due to the chilly weather.
Still, the otters seemed to have a ball.

The cheetahs walked around.

But the lions were the most active. Specifically the younger lions.
While this guy stood at the highest part of the rock formation looking very regal and majestic,

the cubs were playing,

climbing, 

and chasing each other.

Erin and I stood there the longest because the Cubs seemed to be having so much fun.



Also, don't forget to submit any accomplishments, photos, models, etc from 2014 for the 2014 replay!

Washington D.C Zoo

On Thursday, my friend Erin and I went to the Washington D.C Zoo. She came back from Japan a couple of weeks ago, so the two of us decided to do something adult-y. Of course we set our sights on the zoo. 

I'm pretty sure we saw more squirrels than people, which is my type of trip. :)

We saw a range of animals spanning from the tiny Meerkat, 

to big cats like African Lions,

to the Przewalski Wild Horse. These two were adorable. So fluffy!

I survived

I finished my first semester of college in mostly one piece!  😆
So tomorrow my friend who recently returned from her exchange in Japan and I are going to the DC Zoo to celebrate the kickoff of winter break!
But the most important thing to remember is this!

2014 Replay

This year I want to do a Replay of 2014. 

But I don't want to just highlight my year; I want to include readers too. So if you have anything you'd like to share that's happened in 2014 please use the contact form or email me at breyerhorselover11@gmail.com.  Pictures are welcome too!

Some ideas-favorite hobby memories, show accomplishments, new models, milestones, etc. Show accomplishments could be winning rosettes, to entering your first show or placing in a class. No accomplishment is too small and any new model is a good model. It could be a grail or newly gotten stablemate. Milestones could be making tack, learning about breeds, etc. :)

My goal is to have enough submissions to do a couple of posts like show accomplishments, new models, hobby goals, and etc.

The tentative deadline is December 22,2014.

Horse Shaped Objects and PONY

HSO or horse-shaped object  is a term coined by hobbyists for a model horse that is a horse, but isn't the most realistic equine toy around.
I unearthed a pack that I'd forgotten that I owned. It's been years since  I've even seen the poor things.
The herd of them are different types of breeds and even sculpting styles, yet they all go together.
They're from the old book club that was called PONY which ended due to financial reasons. I would do a pitch about it, but here's an advertisement that was made for it.

Members were sent various items during the time period that PONY was around. Members got everything from model horses to real horse things. Every month, members would get one or two horse novels.
Once in a while, model horses were sent out. I still have no idea who the sculpture/painter was and if PONY casted them.

The models I got were of various breeds, ranging from light

to stock looking ones

to draft types.

Others were more cartoon looking.

This is my favorite one of the bunch. The PONY Editors saved the mare that the model was based off of. The editors named her Chica. While I never met Chica, like many of the members (she lived in Spain I believe), she became a mascot to the club. I found enough Chica related things that I may have to make a post about her!

 I obtained more than the ones here, but the models were fragile. So many of the ones I had were broke, either from drops or from when I moved, which was prior to my knowledge of packing well. :)

Horse Shaped Objects may never win a blue ribbon, but they can have fun memories behind them. :)

Throwback Thursday

I came across some pictures today and with the help of my mom's new scanner wand, I was able to scan them!
These are from my birthday years ago, taken by my mom. I couldn't find the date so I pin the pictures to be c. early 2000s.

For my birthday that year, my mom's friend invited me to where her horse was boarded (the actual how it came about is kind of dodgy. I was small!  It very well could have been a surprise!).

The horse's name was Nico, a gelding and I believe a Thoroughbred.

 I was very short too. I got to lead him around in a field where he ate grass and we plodded around. His owner rode him, I was led around. It was a very fun and relaxing day filled with a horse and friends. As you can tell from my smile, I really enjoyed it. :)

Sadly, about a year after this Nico had to be put to sleep because of complications from colic. Pictures are almost like time portals into events that you may have forgotten or can't remember crystal clear.

The Almost Yoda Bunny

Today was the first snow that stayed.
The Penn State Lion looked pretty with it.

I came home after school and let Bullet run around.
He made it apparent that he was far from impressed.

I tried to push it a little further and attempted to make Bullet into Winter Yoda Bunny. Bullet made it clear that he was done with snow and winter. It was a nice try though. 

When I opened the door, he dashed up the steps. Poor Bullet, he doesn't realize that winter has barely begun!

Misty The Wonder Pony

During the Ebay semi-binge shopping spree of 2014, I bought this.

It was published in 1956, which was 9 years after the publication of Misty of Chincoteague. It was 'written' by Misty herself. It is a part of the Tip Top Elf books that include Mother Goose, The Ten Commandments, and many more stories. It's told from the point of view of Misty and goes from her foal days up to her leaving Marguerite Henry to go back to Chincoteague.

 Marguerite Henry isn't named in the story, but from the illustrations and story you can put two and two together of who this 'lady' is.

The story includes Misty's birthday parties and her being the only four-legged member of the American Library Association. It ended with Misty telling the reader that it's time to go back to Chincoteague.

"But now I've a yearning to go back to my wild island home. I want a little pony tagging at my heels. I want to raise up colts of my own. And so I'm off to Chincoteague. I want to be a Mother."

This is an adorable book. Can't wait to add yet another Misty thing to my Misty collector class stuff. :)

Organizing Queen

I was tagged in this a couple of days ago on Facebook.

My goal in life is to one day be *slightly* organized. I took a small step in it.

I bought this.

And started putting my miniatures in it. I have to locate other miniature-y things because little things disappear first when you aren't organized.
